Škoda Octavia/Škoda Octavia Tour (1U). 1996 to date (prod. n/a). 5-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, F/A, 1397 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1390, 1781 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1595, 1598, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1896 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Škoda moves upmarket, with Volkswagen Golf IV-based saloon, reviving a name from the 1950s. Interior very similar, though with cheaper materials; car was sold at a low price thanks to Czech Republic assembly. Dynamically similar to a Golf, and included a 1·8-litre 20V sporting version. Facelift in 2000. Replaced in many markets in 2004 with 1Z Octavia’s launch, and continued as Octavia Tour in others which sold both this model and its successor side by side. Indian production to 2010, Kazakh production to 2011. Continued at Eurocar in Ukraine.
