Volvo 940. 1990–8 (prod. 1,430,000 approx., including 740, 760, 960 and S90). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/R, 1986, 2316 cm³ petrol, 2383 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1986, 2316 cm³ (I4 DOHC). As with 700-series, 940 followed 960 into production as a more basic version, exclusively with four-cylinder engines. Really an evolution of the 740, so no surprises under the skin, though continuation of a boxy shape did not help fuel consumption. All engines had turbo options.
