Volvo 440.jpg

Volvo 440/Volvo 460. 1987–96 (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 1596, 1721, 1794, 1995 cm³ petrol, 1870 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Rumours that the 340 and 360 would be replaced by a more contemporary-looking car came to nought when 440 hatchback was released in 1987. The saloon version, the 460, followed two years later. Larger and safer, but increasingly at odds with the market in the 1990s. Facelift in 1994 raised equipment levels and corrosion protection. Replaced in 1996 by original S40.

Manufacturing location: Born, Sittard-Geleen, Netherlands

Marque: Volvo | Predecessors: Volvo 340, 343, 345, Volvo 360 | Successors: Volvo S40 (1995–2004)
