Smart-looking Polo for the 2010s. Volkswagen upped the perceived quality, including interior materials, and introduced more economical engines. Three-cylinder diesel more powerful than 1·6 it replaced, yet had better fuel economy. Bluemotion diesel with claimed 87 g/km of carbon dioxide at one end of the range; GTI featured super- and turbocharging with optional seven-speed DSG at the other. Good, but not class-leading, handling, but extremely refined. European Car of the Year for 2010. Shared platform with SEAT Ibiza (6J) and Audi A1.
