Volkswagen Passat (B8). 2014 to date (prod. n/a). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, F/A, 1395, 1798, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1598, 1968 cm³ diesel, 9·9 kWh–1395 cm³, 13 kWh–1395 cm³ electric–petrol hybrid (I4 DOHC). All-new Passat on MQB platform, shorter, lower and wider than B7. Sleeker than previous model, with longer wheelbase (by 79 mm), giving the impression of a longer car. Increased headroom despite lower body, and more rear legroom. Volkswagen attempted to take the Passat upmarket with B8, complete with high-tech features, including pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, and emergency assist, which could stop the car if the driver is injured. Plug-in hybrid GTE gained more battery capacity in 2019.
