F/F, 999 cm³ (I3 DOHC), 1197 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1390, 1395, 1598, 1798 cm³ petrol, 1598, 1968 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 24·2 kWh electric. Seventh generation of Volkswagen’s best seller, succeeding models that had sold 29 million, on adaptable MQB platform. Longer (by 56 mm at 4,255 mm), with a 59 mm increase in wheelbase, wider (13 mm to 1,799 mm), and lower (28 mm to 1,452 mm), Mk VII is actually 100 kg lighter. Lower drag coefficient despite familiar shape, at Cd 0,27, though a bit more cab-backward than before. More features, including touch-screen system, multi-collision braking system, PreCrash system from Touareg, adaptive cruise control, driver alert system, and lane assist. Four modes for altering throttle mapping and engine management; stop–start standard. Estate and E-Golf electric car from 2013. Chinese production at FAW from 2013, launched at Guangzhou show. Mid-term facelift 2016.
