DOHC), 1595 cm³ petrol, 1595 cm³ LPG, 1968 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 2480 cm³ (5 cyl. DOHC). Revised Golf on Mk V platform but re-engineered to be cheaper to build. More upscale appearance with greater perceived quality and horizontal-themed grille in keeping with Volkswagen Scirocco III. Designed under VW design director Walter de’Silva. Still the premium hatchback in its sector, though steering vague.
