1958 Vauxhall Velox.jpg

Vauxhall Velox (PAS/PASY/PASX). 1957–62 (prod. 81,841 all PA, 91,923 all PASX). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/R, 2262, 2651 cm³ (I6 OHV). American glamour reaches Vauxhall, with styling (under Davy Jones) similar to the 1958 Chevrolet. Extra 1½ in in wheelbase, though lower styling made the car look even more substantial. Dog-leg windscreen, and initially a three-piece rear window; this was replaced in 1960. Lower centre of gravity, aiding handling; short-stroke six offered good performance and economy. Estate from 1959. Upgrade to PASX with larger square (82·55 mm bore and stroke) engine in 1960 with larger wheels and fins. Improved performance with 113 bhp and 148 lb ft of torque, and dual overdrive and Hydramatic available. Also assembled in Australia as a more premium product than the Holden.

Manufacturing location: Luton, Bedfordshire, England

Marque: Vauxhall | Model: Vauxhall Velox | Predecessor: Vauxhall Velox (EIP) | Successor: Vauxhall Velox (PB)

q.v. Vauxhall Cresta (PA)
