VAZ 2109 (ВАЗ-2109). 1987–2004 (prod. unknown). 5-door saloon. F/F, 1100, 1288, 1500 cm³ (4 cyl. OHC). Five-door edition of VAZ 2108, modernizing the AvtoVAZ line-up from the basic Zhigulis (VAZ 2101 and its derivatives). Exported as Lada Samara, but never achieved the same success as the Zhiguli. Porsche had a hand in the engines, but the cars were seen as behind the times in export markets. Replaced by facelifted VAZ 2114, which originally supplemented it in 2001.
