1948 Tucker Torpedo.jpg

Tucker Torpedo. 1948 (prod. 50, plus 1 prototype). 4-door sedan. R/R, 5473 cm³ (I6 OHV). Very innovative, streamlined, rear-engined sedan, the brainchild of Preston Tucker. Had fuel injection, disc brakes, padded dashboard, seat belts—features that were not standard at the time. Some reliability issues due to the novelty of the technology. Styling by Alex Tremulis. Drag coefficient reportedly 0,27, a figure that only began becoming commonplace in the 21st century. Production halted after pressure from the Big Three and an SEC investigation.

Manufacturing location: Chicago, Illinois, USA

Marque: Tucker
