Triumph Spitfire Mk IV. 1970–4 (prod. 70,021). 2-door convertible. F/R, 1296 cm³ (I4 OHV). New sheetmetal front and rear, the latter resembling Triumph Mk II and Stag. New removable hardtop. New rear suspension, overcoming oversteer problems. Interior changed greatly, with full-width dashboard, and instruments in front of driver, rather than placed in the centre (US models had this on the Mk 3 from 1969). Engine detuned slightly for manufacturing reasons and emissions’ laws. Synchromesh in first. Very successful given its brief run, selling better than its predecessors.
