1962 Triumph Spitfire 4.jpg

Triumph Spitfire 4 (Bomb). 1962–5 (prod. 45,763). 2-door roadster. F/R, 1147 cm³ (I4 OHV). More upmarket rival to the Austin–Healey Sprite using Herald underpinnings. Retrospectively dubbed Mk I, but Spitfire 4 on launch. Michelotti styling. Tuned four-cylinder from Herald with twin SU carburettors. Oversteer due to suspension set-up (coil and wishbone up front but swing axle at rear). Overdrive from 1964.
