Toyota Vitz/Toyota Yaris/Tianjin–FAW Vizi (SCP10/NCP10). 1998–2012 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 998, 1296, 1298, 1342, 1497 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1364 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). A fresh start for Toyota, replacing Starlet, Tercel, Corsa and Corolla II lines in most markets with a cute, Sotiris Kovos-designed supermini. Simple interior with central speedometer for most models. Japanese Car of the Year for 1998–9. Diesel from 2002. A better all-rounder than Honda Fit (GD), though not as roomy. Three-box sedan sold as Toyota Platz. Sold in most non-Japanese markets as Yaris, and Echo in North America and Australasia. Toyota production to 2005, but Tianjin production to 2012 (with 998 and 1342 cm³ engines).
