Front-wheel drive, giving Toyota an entrant in the field as Mazda and Nissan came out with their offerings. Mid-term facelift in 1984, with four-wheel-drive option. Hatchbacks replaced in 1986, but four-door sedan continued in to the third generation’s production period, deleted in 1990.
