F/R, 1290, 1770 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1452 cm³ petrol, 1839 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1587 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Sprinter goes boxy, following the Corolla, with much the same formula under the skin. Two-door hardtop lower than the sedan, thanks to Toyota basing the model on the coupé body. Front disc brakes standard across range for the first time. Mid-term facelift in 1981, with the sedan gaining a slanted nose. Diesel from 1982, as well as a wagon. Sprinter Carib AWD wagon added 1982, covered separately.
