Second-generation Publica, more sophisticated to attract young baby boomer buyers as a first car. Related to Corolla, sharing some of the engines. Mid-term changes in 1972, when sedan gained more of a fastback style. Sporty, longer Publica Starlet coupé from 1973, which later lent its trim level name to the Publica’s successor. More upright Publica Starlet four-door also introduced 1973. Sedan replaced by Starlet February 1978, while van produced till October of that year. A pick-up commercial, not covered in Autocade, survived till 1988. Twinned with Daihatsu Consorte, which had its own 1·0-litre engine.
