Fourth-generation Prius with more startling looks reminiscent of the Mirai, and greater efficiency from engines, which went on a diet to achieve a weight loss of 20 per cent. Improved performance with no fuel economy penalty, and better safety systems. New platform, more space, with larger boot. Double-wishbone rear suspension finally, instead of torsion beam; interior slightly more conventional. Steering with improved feedback. PHV plug-in hybrid, called Prius Prime in some markets, from 2016, with some bodywork differences; sporty GR version launched 2018.
