Hybrid electric–petrol car that popularized the concept and was first mass-produced vehicle of this type. Basic 1·5-litre petrol engine combined with electric drivetrain: car switches between the two depending on power needed (the latter usually for urban motoring). Exports to US with 2000 NHW11 model, with mid-term improvements. Odd styling, apeing a squared-off Corolla 30. A favourite of environmentalists and Hollywood celebrities.
Marque: Toyota | Model: Toyota Prius | Successor: Toyota Prius (NHW20)
