2011 Toyota Etios Liva.jpg

Toyota Etios. 2010 to date (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 1197, 1496 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Indian-made subcompact car to challenge Maruti Swift, distinguished by its “smiling” grille. Notchback saloon first, launched late 2010; hatchback, subtitled Liva and with smaller engine, from June 2011. Designed specifically for India as a mass-market vehicle—models such as the Corolla Altis were considered more premium there at this point—with its platform planned for other countries such as Brazil. Excellent quality from Bangalore plant, based on early reports. No-nonsense motoring, with acceptable ride and predictable handling. Brazilian manufacture from 2012. Cross, a model with off-road cladding, for Brazilian market.

Manufacturing locations: Bangalore, Karnataka, India; São Paulo, Brazil

Marque: Toyota
