Toyota Chaser (X30/X31/X40/X41). 1977–80 (prod. 105,957 sold). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 1770 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1968, 1972 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1988 cm³ (I6 OHC). Sporting counterpart to the Corona Mark II, with wider grille and different taillights, and dimensions and engine sizes (under 2·0) keeping it in the class 5 segment, sold through the Toyota Auto chain in Japan. Targeted at younger buyers and rivalled Nissan Skyline (C210). Minor changes through the run. Two-litre four changed in 1978 from 18R-U to 21R-U.
