Toyota Celica (TA60/TA61/TA62/TA63/TA64/AA63/SA60/SA63/RA60/RA61/RA63/RA64/RA65/RA65L). 1981–5 (prod. n/a). 2- and 3-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 1587, 1791, 1968 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1588, 1770 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1832, 1968, 1972, 1995, 2366 cm³ (I4 OHC). Contemporary-looking, squared-off Celica for the early 1980s, with XX (q.v.) beginning to depart noticeably from the lower models. On a platform related to the RWD Toyota Corona and Carina. Pop-up headlamps. Twin-cam turbo 1·8 from 1982 for homologation—A60 Celica had an excellent competition pedigree. Mid-term changes in 1983. Convertibles finished Stateside, but sold in Japan.
