Flagship for Toyota brand in North America, but a step down from similarly sized Lexus models. Thought of as Toyota’s challenge to Buick: a large car going after older buyers. First three generations were very conservative and restrained, with comfortable ride, but the fourth-generation Avalon proved to be a more complete package. Second generation also sold as Toyota Pronard. Always US-built, apart from a brief life in Australia for the first generation, where it was poorly received.

Marque: Toyota | Successor: Toyota Aurion
