Long-running Crown nameplate began under the Toyopet marque in Japan, with a vehicle very well suited to Japanese conditions, less so for the US one, where the first Crown was exported to. Eight years passed before the second generation appeared, upsized and with cleaner styling, with American influences. The Crown Eight was developed from the second-generation model, featuring a V8 and targeted at VIPs and official use. The last Toyopet Crown, before the Toyota name was adopted on the home market, appeared in 1967, and was additionally manufactured under licence by Shinjin of Korea.

Marque: Toyopet | Predecessor: Toyopet RH | Successors: Toyota Crown, Toyota Century
