Smaller Toyota, filling the gap left by the growth of the Crown model line, and developed to fight Nissan’s 110 and 210 Bluebird models, which had a sizeable share of the Japanese taxi market. S-type 33 PS 995 cm³ engine introduced, which was far more modern than the side-valve units; monocoque construction kept the car light. Minor annual changes; new water-cooled 997 cm³ P-series engine from 1959, developing 45 PS. Wider rear seat that year, too, and Toyota claimed Corona became a five-, rather than four-, seater.
Marque: Toyota | Model: Toyota Corona | Successor: Toyopet Corona (T20)
