A trade mark seldom seen outside Japan, though it adorned a few Toyota models for export in the 1950s. Toyopet was originally a nickname for some Toyotas, but the company registered it as a trade mark after World War II. The Toyopet name was also given to one of Toyota’s domestic sales’ channels, and numerous models, in particular the Corona and Crown, were sold through it. The name began disappearing in the 1970s, first with the Crown, then with the Corona, in favour of Toyota. Toyopet still exists as a separate chain in Japan, with some Toyota-branded models still exclusively sold through it.
