Suzuki Escudo/Suzuki Grand Escudo/Suzuki Grand Vitara/Chevrolet Tracker/Chevrolet Grand Vitara. 1997–2015 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door SUV, 5-door LWB SUV, 3-door convertible SUV. F/R, F/A, 1586, 1590, 1995 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1590 cm³ petrol, 1870, 1997, 1998 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2493, 2736 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Larger Escudo, but still quite basic under the smoother body. Cheap and well equipped, but noisy with a poor ride, and unrefined. Average room inside. Quite reliable. OEM model, Mazda Proceed Levante, offered in Japan from 1997 to 2000, when the Tribute replaced it. Longer-wheelbase Grand Escudo seven-seater also available, sold as XL-7 for export. Various limited editions offered. Three-door deleted in Japan in 2002, and 2·5 V6 deleted in 2003. Japanese production to 2005. Largest engine for US market. Badged Chevrolet in Ecuador, sold alongside successor, with 1·6 OHC for three-door and 2·0 DOHC for five-door in the early 2010s; Colombia took the former. Five-door deleted 2013, three-door still available into 2015.
