Suzuki Alto (HA12S/HA22S/HA23S/HA12V/HA23V). 1998–2012 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 657, 796 cm³ (I3 OHC), 658, 998 cm³ (I3 DOHC), 1061 cm³ (I4 OHC). New-generation Alto, initially beginning with economy and turbocharged Works models, but the latter were deleted in 2000 as Suzuki turned Alto back into an economy line. DOHC lean-burn engine from 1999. Alto C succeeded Cervo C in 1999, and featured a different grille, with ovoid lights which were shared with the Works models. Maruti models commenced production in India in 2000, with larger engines (0·8 and 1·1); K10 model débuted in 2010 with 1·0 DOHC engine, later replaced by a rebodied version, though dated compared with newer competition in India. Badge-engineered as Mazda Carol, with the upscale trim level called MeLady, and with a different front bumper incorporating the Mazda grille from 2001. Formed the basis of the third-generation Mitsuoka Ray.
