Subaru Leone. 1979–88 (prod. n/a). 3- and 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé, 5-door wagon, 2-door pick-up. F/F, F/A, 1298, 1595, 1781 cm³ (F4 OHV). Revised and larger Leone for the 1980s, with sharper styling. New 1·8 engine at top of range, though still OHV. Wide range, beginning with basic hatchback (Swingback), up to the 1800 GTS at launch, with air conditioning, electric windows and power steering. Coupé featured what appears to be an opera window, a nod to the US market. Four-wheel drive for 1·6 and 1·8 only. Minor changes in 1981, with Touring wagon added. First Japanese four-wheel-drive turbocharged car as part of this range in in 1982. Deleted in Japan in 1984, though the basic three-door hatch continued, as Subaru Hatchback, for US market till 1989 model year.
