2010 Subaru Outback.jpg

Subaru Legacy/Subaru Outback (BM9/BMG/BMM/BR9/BRG/BRM). 2009–14 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/A, 1994, 2457, 2498 cm³ petrol, 1998 cm³ diesel (F4 DOHC), 2457 cm³ (F4 OHC), 3630 cm³ (F6 DOHC). Larger, taller and safer version of Legacy, with same body styles as predecessor: sedan, wagon, and raised wagon, called Legacy Outback in Japan and Outback in most other countries, including US where these models came from Subaru’s Indiana plant. Not the most attractive, losing the sleekness of outgoing BL and BP models. No frameless windows, ending a long-standing Subaru tradition. Large array of models, including sporting ones from Subaru Tecnica International (STI). Handbrake removed in favour of electric button to the right of the dashboard on RHD models. Heavier than predecessor by c. 100 kg. EyeSight collision avoidance software, with upgrade in 2010. Good performance and grip as one might expect from Subaru and its racing connections, but lifeless steering.

Manufacturing locations: Ōta, Gunma, Japan; Lafayette, Indiana, USA

Marque: Subaru | Model: Subaru Legacy | Predecessor: Subaru Legacy (BL) | Successors: Subaru Levorg, Subaru Legacy (BN)
