Subaru Legacy (BL5/BL9/BLE/BP5/BP9/BPE). 2003–9 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/A, 1994, 2457 cm³ (F4 OHC), 1994, 2457 cm³ petrol, 1998 cm³ diesel (F4 DOHC), 2999 cm³ (F6 DOHC). Legacy grows again, with an extra 35 mm in the width, taking it to class 3 for the Japanese market. More safety equipment and more rigid body, but use of lightweight parts, high-tensile steel and aluminium helped lighten BL and BP Legacy. Outback from late 2003. Legacy won the Japanese Car of the Year award for 2003–4. Mid-term changes 2006. B4 and Tuned by STI sporting models added, including S402 in 2008. Good quality and excellent handling, though rear accommodation tighter than rivals’.
