Subaru Legacy 2·0 GT-B Station Wagon.jpg

Subaru Legacy (BD/BG/B11/BD2/BD3/BD4/BD5/BD9/BG2/BG3/BG4/BG5/BG7/BG9/BGA/BGB/BGC/BK). 1993–8 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, F/A, 1820, 1994, 2212 cm³ (F4 OHC), 1994, 2457 cm³ (F4 DOHC). Legacy gets new sheetmetal with a stronger appearance and trapezoidal grille. Olivier Boulay had a hand in the design. Base engines insufficient; larger 2·5 introduced. Four-cylinder DOHC turbo and twin turbo used for sporting models; two-litre EJ20R reached 280 PS output. Traction control system available. Despite development during the bubble economy, Subaru kept the Legacy in the class 5 segment (at 1,690 mm width) while increasing interior room with longer wheelbase (2,630 mm, up 50 mm). Brighton Touring Wagon featured self-levelling air suspension and height adjustment. Outback, Subaru’s foray into the US SUV market, was a raised wagon in the vein of the AMC Eagle, from 1995; called Grand Wagon in Japan and later renamed Lancaster. Revisions in 1996.
