Subaru Impreza (GD/GD2/GD3/GD9/GDA/GDB/GDC/GDD/GG2/GG3/GG9/GGA/GGB/GGC/GGD/G11). 2000–7 (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 1493, 1597, 1994, 2457 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1493, 1994, 2457 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Impreza evolves, with a much more rigid bodyshell, and lower emissions. Hatchback was narrower than the sedan with flared wings—class 5 versus class 3. The hatchback was also offered as the Saab 9-2X, nicknamed the ‘Saabaru’. All-wheel-drive transmission shared with Subaru Legacy (BE). WRX found itself on several police forces, not just in Japan. Very limited production in 2000 of a WRX STi hatchback, but the rest were sedans. As before, a very successful competition history for WRX, including the World Rally Championship, with outputs above 320 PS. Early models had large round headlamps, which were controversial at the start; facelift in 2002 saw rectangular units. A further facelift in 2005 with three-part split grille.

Manufacturing location: Ōta, Gunma, Japan

Marque: Subaru | Model: Subaru Impreza | Predecessor: Subaru Impreza (GC) | Successor: Subaru Impreza (GE)
