Replacement for Leone, and technically related to that model but lighter; the beginning of a very successful model line with Subaru. Styled by Tetsuya Hayashi and Hidefumi Kato, with more rounded, compact looks than Leone. Smallest 1·5 for home market. Soft-roader model introduced in 1995, the forerunner to the Forester, which was spun off the Impreza platform. Mid-term changes 1996; Forester interior adopted 1997.
