Subaru Impreza (GC1/GC2/GC4/GC6/GC8/GF1/GF2/GF3/GF4/GF5/GF6/GF8/GFA/G10/GM). 1992–2000 (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/F, F/A, 1493, 1597, 1820, 1994, 2212, 2457 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1994, 2212, 2457 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Replacement for Leone, and technically related to that model but lighter; the beginning of a very successful model line with Subaru. Styled by Tetsuya Hayashi and Hidefumi Kato, with more rounded, compact looks than Leone. Smallest 1·5 for home market. Impreza WRX models had an excellent competition history, cementing Subaru’s reputation in the World Rally Championship: WRXs had power increases through the decade, along with various limited editions, rising to 300 PS for the ultimate model in this series. Soft-roader model introduced in 1995, the forerunner to the Forester, which was spun off the Impreza platform. Mid-term changes 1996; Forester interior adopted 1997.
