Indian version of Rover SD1, in an attempt to revive Standard, and created to challenge Hindustan Ambassador. Expensive, at Rs. 2·12 lakh. Differences to British model, with higher ride height, and fitting of old Standard Vanguard 1991 cm³ unit, dubbed the HCC206, which was being built at the time for the Standard 20 Van but in diesel form. Differing reports about the Vanguard unit, though it is accepted that the fuel consumption was less than half what was claimed (35 mpg; cars delivered as low as 14 mpg), especially with air conditioning, which led to a government investigation, from which Standard never emerged.
Marque: Standard
