− | Saab 9000 (Tipo 4). 1984–98 (prod. 503,087). 4- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 1985, 2290 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC), 2962 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Trollhättan’s version of the Tipo Quattro executive saloons, developed with Fiat. Well appointed, well built hatchback, first all-new Saab since the 99 débuted (if one does not count the Saab 600). Roomy, with good handling, with turbo option; some criticisms over transmission. Booted saloon, CD, launched 1988, with more sloped grille; Talladega special edition the same year (called Carlsson in UK) with higher boost. Larger 2·3 from 1990. Hatchbacks adopted CD grille in 1991, Aero performance model also this year. In 1992, the 9000 CS, with a lower front end, débuted; four-door saloon got this grille for 1994. V6 from GM, added for 1995.
