Saab 9-5 (D4/D5/EB4/EB5/YS3E). 1997–2010 (prod. 252,236 saloon, plus 231,357 estate). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, 1910 cm³ diesel, 1985, 2290 cm³ petrol (I4 DOHC), 2171 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2958 cm³ diesel, 2962 cm³ petrol (V6 DOHC). GM-developed Saab, on GM2900 platform shared with Opel Vectra B. Conventional looks, but low Cd, with 0,29 for saloon and 0,31 for estate. Safe as one might expect of Swedish cars, and excellent ergonomics. Turbocharged engines performed well, though twitchy at full throttle. Very roomy. Mid-term changes in 2005, with Fiat 1·9 diesel replacing 2·2, and V6s deleted. Resurrected in 2013 in China as the Senova D70.

Manufacturing location: Trollhättan, Sweden

Marque: Saab | Model: Saab 9-5 | Predecessor: Saab 9000 Mk II | Successor: Saab 9-5 (2010–11)
