GM-developed successor to Saab 9000, originally on a platform shared with the Opel Vectra B, but heavily modified. Very long life, and not replaced till a second-generation model appeared in 2010, at a time when GM was in bad shape and needed to sell Saab. Spyker bought the company, but the venture soon ran out of money. The newer 9-5 was short-lived, and died the following year, GM having vetoed any sale of the business to Chinese concerns. The first 9-5’s intellectual property was purchased by BAIC of China, and its platform underpinned the first Senova car there, the D70.

Marque: Saab | Predecessor: Saab 9000
