Rover 3-Litre/Rover 3·5-Litre (P5). 1958–73 (prod. 69,141). 4-door saloon, 4-door coupé. F/R, 2995 cm³ (I6 OISE), 3528 cm³ (V8 OHV). Modern saloon from Rover, its first monocoque design. Reworked engine with unusual overhead intake valve and side exhaust valve, but 2995 cm³ and 105 bhp net. At 32 cwt., original P5 felt underpowered, but had an excellent ride and comfortable cabin. More imposing than P4 and not a direct replacement, but a range-topper. Improvements in 1961 with power-assisted steering helped. Mk II from 1962, with more power, lower suspension, and improved gearchange, and introduction of coupé (power steering standard). Mk III in 1965 saw power steering for entire range. V8-equipped 3·5-Litre replaced Mk III, with 144 bhp, and standard ROStyles.
