Rover 418 GSD.jpg

Rover 414/Rover 416/Rover 418/Rover 420 (R8). 1990–8 (prod. 245,630). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, 1396, 1590 cm³ petrol, 1769, 1905 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1396, 1590, 1994 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Booted variant of the Rover 200 (R8), similarly based on the Honda Concerto. Quite a convincing compact sporting saloon, with decent K-series DOHC engines that helped put Rover ahead of the competition, while Honda suspension helped with handling. Tourer introduced in 1994, the same year as a retro grille. Saloon replaced 1995 as Honda Domani (MA)-based 400s came on stream, by which time the R8 was beginning to show its age.

Manufacturing location: Longbridge, Birmingham, England

Marque: Rover | Model: Rover 400 | Predecessor: Rover 213, 216 | Successor: Rover 400 (HH)
