Renault Sport Spider (W94). 1996–9 (prod. 1,640, incl. 90 Spider Trophy). 2-door roadster. M/R, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Lightweight sports car from Renault, developed as a halo model. DOHC engine produced 147 PS. Strong chassis, bodywork in plastic composite; car particularly stable. Standard model did not have a windscreen on the Continent; UK versions had a fixed one. Produced by Alpine at Dieppe, but branded Renault Sport as Renault wished to promote the newer brand. Used also in one-make race series.
