Renault Premier. 1987 (prod. 139,051 incl. Eagle Premier and Dodge Monaco). 4-door sedan. F/F 2464 cm³ (4 cyl. OHV), 2975 cm³ (V6 OHC). Short-lived Americanized Renault, with sedan bodyshell designed by Giugiaro. Related to Renault 25 in terms of drivetrain and suspension, though floorpan unique. Choice of four-cylinder AMC engine or PRV V6. A handful left the new factory in Canada before Chrysler renamed all AMC products to Eagle; subsequent cars called Eagle Premier. Very refined and roomy by American standards. Conventional by Renault standards but still too quirky for Americans; however, it formed the basis for Chrysler’s 1990s’ LH series cars after the takeover and AMC engineering chief François Castaing went to the new parent company.

Manufacturing location: Bramalea, Ontario, Canada

Marque: Renault | Predecessor: AMC Eagle | Successor: Eagle Premier
