Spawned the very successful Renault Mégane Scénic I mini-MPV, which had 60 per cent of all Mégane sales at one point. Average dynamically, but sold extremely well; coupé was a top seller in its segment in some countries. Interior fine at launch, but appeared dull in the early 21st century. Facelift in 1999. European production to 2002, though Mégane I continued in South America till 2009, selling alongside II.
