Renault 19. 1988–2003 (prod. 29,222 cabriolet). 3-, 4- and 5-door saloon, 2-door cabriolet. F/F, 1171, 1390, 1397, 1565, 1721, 1783, 1794 cm³ petrol, 1870 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1390 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1764 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Last new Renault to bear a numerical model name, replacing 9 and 11. Sharp, attractive Giugiaro styling, looking voluminous. Four-door saloon from 1989, initially dubbed Chamade, cabriolet (made by Karmann) from 1990. Mid-term facelift 1992, further revisions 1994, with French production ceasing in 1995. Cabriolets to 1997. Argentinian production to 2000 (with 1·6 in addition to some other engines); Turkish production to 2003. Compared with contemporary Peugeots, bland to drive with the exception of sporting 16-valve models, though fairly competent.
