A clean-sheet design, and even more upmarket. Externally, a fussier looking Range Rover, though made simpler, more elegant and more luxurious on the inside. The design was meant to take Range Rover cues and advance them; reaction was mixed at launch. Marketing campaign saw 2012 model alongside 1970 original, connecting the two. Lighter than its predecessor by some 480 kg thanks to monocoque aluminium architecture, and new aluminium suspension and other components. Fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions reduced by a claimed 25 per cent as a result. An inch longer than outgoing model. Terrain Response program could adjust driveline based on what was beneath the car. Plenty of goodies including Hill Descent Control, and other controls for gradient release, hill starts, stability and traction. LWB from 2013. Plug-in hybrid from 2017. Straight-six mild hybrid from 2019.
