Proton Wira.jpg

Proton Wira. 1993–2007 (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door sedan. F/F, 1298, 1468, 1597 cm³ petrol, 1998 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1834 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Updated Mitsubishi Lancer for 1991 gave Proton a new base for a possible second model, eventually complementing, rather than replacing, base Saga. Issues with trim and build quality as with Saga. Five-door hatchback, designed by Proton, called Aeroback. Lotus worked on the Wira after it was brought into the Proton group in 1996, but handling still considerably sub-par. Poor gearbox as well, though performance adequate. Sold on price in export markets.

Manufacturing location: Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia

Marque: Proton | Successors: Proton Gen-2, Proton Persona (CM6)
