Proton Waja. 2000–11 (prod. over 292,556 sold). 4-door sedan, 4-door LWB sedan. F/F, 1584 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1597, 1598, 1783, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Proton’s first ground-up model, though originally launched with a Mitsubishi 1·6 until its own-designed engines came on stream. Decent handling, thanks to Proton’s ownership of Lotus at the time, but not that well resolved, and interior fittings left something to be desired. Decent levels of equipment, but not that well priced abroad. Stretched model, Chancellor, from 2005, with 2·0-litre Mitsubishi engine. Facelifted in 2006. Exported to the UK and Pakistan as Impian.
