1963 Pontiac Grand Prix.jpg

Pontiac Grand Prix. 1963–4 (prod. 72,959 for 1963; 63,810 for 1964). 2-door coupé. F/R, 389, 421 in³ (V8 OHV). New sheetmetal shared with Catalina, including stacked quad headlights, but unique roofline with a concave backlight. Clean exterior design with no side sculpturing. Wheelbase identical, but overall length increased by 1·3 in, and tracks increased 2·9 in (for a total of 64 in), giving a more purposeful appearance. Weight roughly the same, but more power, with the top 389s replaced by new 421s with 353 and 370 bhp. Sales more than doubled for 1963 and remained strong for 1964. Still softly sprung, unless one opted for heavy-duty suspension. Vinyl roof optional. Modest upgrades and minor facelift for 1964.
