1984 Plymouth Voyager.jpg

Plymouth Voyager/Plymouth Grand Voyager (T-115). 1984–95 (prod. n/a). 4-door MPV. F/F, F/A, 2213, 2507, 2555 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2972 cm³ (V6 OHC), 3301, 3778 cm³ (V6 OHV). The pioneering minivan, launched after the Nissan Prairie (M10) but before the Renault Espace I. Likely to have been conceived at Ford by Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich and executed at Chrysler when the company hired both men; built on a K-car (Plymouth Reliant) platform, dubbed the S-platform here. Very versatile and roomy with flexible seating arrangements; FWD permitted a flat floor. Good fuel economy and acceptable handling. MacPherson strut with coils up front and longitudinal leaf springs at the rear. LWB Grand Voyager from 1987. Facelift for 1991, rounding off the edges, and platform renamed AS. Interiors upgraded, abandoning Reliant roots for a more ergonomic, custom layout. Very successful in North America and helped make Chrysler’s lead in the minivan market unassailable for years. Twinned with Dodge Caravan (1984–95).
