Peugeot 406 (D83/D82/D93/D92). 1995–2004 (prod. 1,500,000 approx.). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, 1580, 1761 cm³ petrol, 1905, 1997, 2088 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1761, 1997, 1998, 2230 cm³ petrol, 2179 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 2946 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Replacement for excellent 405, with greater emphasis on comfort over handling. Refined for its time, though rear visibility difficult due to high boot on saloon. Excellent diesels. However, dull interior and performance not the best on smaller-engined models. D83 denoted saloon, D82 the estate. Facelift (D93 and D92) in 1999.
